Welcome to PharmaCares. We started the company to help pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies get more products into the hands of underserved Americans that need them most.

There were two complimentary ideas that pushed us into starting the company. The first was a friend. I had just told him about One Eleven Software and the successes we had been experiencing with SampleServer. He nodded and said, “That’s great but what are you doing to change the world?”

It took a year to figure that out.

During that time, I learned that the U.S. pharmaceutical industry spends billions of dollars destroying short-dated products – products that have a limited shelf life. While it’s true that some of these products are donated, many are destroyed. I was shocked.

PharmaCares was the result of a year of thinking, talking to peers, and looking for ways to improve access to medicines.

Over the next couple of blog posts, I’m going to write about the path that lead to creating PharmaCares and the reactions we’ve gotten from industry and the non-profits focused on helping those in need.
